Microsoft Office Mobile combines Word, Excel and PowerPoint into a singular app for Android.

Microsoft Office Mobile provides users access to Word, Excel and PowerPoint on Android smartphones and tablets, and it does it with a level of sophistication and polish that many didn’t think was possible. In fact, this app helped set the standard for what office software can be on mobile devices, and it paved the way for the official standalone Office apps for Android, which are discussed in closing.

This app has been designed from scratch with phones and tablets in mind, and it shows. That optimization ensures that reading and editing text documents and spreadsheets even on a small phone screen is user-friendly. There’s also integrated cloud support, including direct support for OneDrive, OneDrive for Business and SharePoint, and when the app loads, it provides fast and convenient access to the documents you’ve viewed and edited most recently.

Document presentation is stellar. When you look at an Excel spreadsheet, for instance, it looks just like it would on your Windows desktop or laptop computer. It has support for charts, animations, shapes, SmartArt graphics and more. There are special presentation views where needed, such as a Slide Navigator for PowerPoint, and when you resume viewing or editing a document, the app remembers precisely where you were within that document.

Microsoft Office Mobile isn’t just about viewing documents. You can make significant edits as well as insert comments, and the app does a great job of ensuring formatting remains intact. Users won’t find all of the editing options found in the desktop software, but the important ones are there. Note that editing and creating personal documents does require a free Microsoft account. To create, edit and save documents for business use, you’ll need a valid Office 365 subscription as well.

Note that Microsoft Office Mobile has been deprecated and supplanted by individual Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps for Android. While you can still download and use Microsoft Office Mobile for the time being, it is no longer supported, and all new features are reserved for those new standalone apps.
